I just started my first week as an intern for DataOne under the Interactive Workflows Views project. To begin, I met with my mentors, Bertram Ludaescher, Paolo Missier, and Timothy Mcphillips and after catching up and familiarizing myself with the team and project, we discussed long term and short term goals for the internship.
For the first week I researched several approaches to designing a real-time updating interactive user interface. The main problem I have come across is the idea of creating a GUI that will not require the user to refresh the window when there are updates to the folder the user is accessing. Although this task is very difficult and something I have not worked with much before, I already learned a lot about different software and program designs.
I have a lot of work ahead of me in the next 8 weeks, but I am very excited to work with this team as I can see so many opportunities for self-growth.
