The DataONE social network visualization project was assigned to me on November 1, 2012.<\/p>\n
I partnered with Chad Mitchell, SciData scholar also receiving support from DataONE.<\/p>\n
Objectives included:<\/p>\n
The goal was to have some solid results prior to a December 18 meeting with the DataONE external advisory board meeting.<\/p>\n
Retrospectively, I can comment that obtaining data for collaborations (individual and institutional) was easier for the network of collaborations within DataONE.<\/p>\n
Chad and I learned that much of that data already exists in the form of membership on the DataONE docs.dataone.org site.<\/p>\n
Data concerning disciplinary networks, \u00a0outputs, papers, presentations , and other funding is more difficult to obtain.<\/p>\n
Primarily, defining disciplinary networks is difficult.<\/p>\n
Some approaches were to rely on publicly available resources such as CVs, social media accounts, and citation indices as data sources.<\/p>\n
